To those still in school (or those with kids who are), one of the things spring means is spring break. If you're anything like me, you love to travel, especially after you've been cooped up inside all winter. Why not dedicate your event's stationery to that love of travel with a map motif?
Wedding invitations fall perfectly into this theme. There are so many options - use maps of places you've already been on vacation to with your soon-to-be-spouse (or places you'd like to go in the future), advertise where you plan to spend your honeymoon, or feature the towns (or states, or countries, if they're different) where you and your spouse grew up. If you have a lot of out-of-town guests, you can use map decorations at the reception to give each table a designated location as a shout-out to your traveling guests, or write the estimated number of miles each person has traveled to be with you on your special day on their escort cards or place cards at the reception. Or maybe you haven't traveled many places (yet). Is there a favorite wine or food dish your spouse and you both love? Or a favorite sports team? Pay homage to the hometowns (or states, or countries) of your favorite foods and teams with maps of those locations. Or if you share a common ancestry, highlight where your families have come from by using maps of those countries.
The maps in this stationery set are from a French map printed on scrapbook paper. Not only is the area representing France and its bordering countries, but all of the words are in French, giving it a very authentic feel. I love the old, kind of vintage-y colors the scrapbook paper used, too, so I played those colors up in the rest of the design as well.
I adhered the scrapbook paper to the left flap and right pocket of the metallic mint green Himalaya pocketfold envelope, and then scanned in the paper to incorporate the map onto the printed invitations and reply cards, too.
The reply card has a matching metallic mint green envelope, and I picked out light olive and pinkish-gray colors from the map to use in the stripes and text on the printed designs. The light pinks and greens look great together, and the whole aesthetic is very European.
I picked two classic fonts for the stationery - a lowercase italic font that somewhat matched the French text on the maps, and an all-caps serif font reminiscent of old letterpress type with its variation in thin and thick lines. The fonts also do a lot to tie the whole package together and give it that vintage European feel. :)
